Research Shows "Love at First Sight" Is Really "Love at First Sniff"
Studies find that women are attracted to certain men whose scents are dissimilar from their own.

/24-7PressRelease/ - PARADISE VALLEY, AZ, June 12, 2008 - According to studies done by the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and the University of Chicago, a man's scent is a major factor in his attraction to woman.

In fact, women are more attracted to men whose scents are immunologically dissimilar to themselves.

"This information plays a major role in the mating cycle of humans," explains Martin Brown, author of the article, "Scent of a Relationship," which runs this week in SingleMindedWomen.com. "These studies show that women are attracted to men who have dissimilar immune systems, so that the healthiest babies will be born."

Further studies at the University of Chicago showed that the opposite is true when a woman was on birth control: in that case, she was attracted to men whose immune systems that were similar to hers—because it meant that these men would be more concerned about protecting her than mating with her. The also article cites the book The Scent of Desire, which argues that women may want to consider getting off the pill before looking for a man with whom to mate.

Also mentioned in the article is Geoffrey Miller, an evolutionary psychologist at the University of New Mexico, who has theorized that foreplay is based on this need to find a partner's "true scent," and that modern society's propensity toward extra hygiene is actually hampering one's innate ability to choose a healthy mate.

"Whether birth control is suppressing the natural instincts of humans has not been determined," says Brown. "And it has not been discovered if humans have become weaker over the years. due to improved hygiene. What is known, however, is that a person's scent plays a major role in whether or not someone finds another person attractive or not."

The effects of this information, says Brown, could actually have a huge impact on the health of humans over time. "When nature is altered beyond what is intended, things can go awry very quickly."
