Researchers Discover Marriages Continues to Drop While Family Life Rises

Time magazine took a poll of over 2,500 Americans done in November 2010 and discovered that 40 percent of Americans feel that marriage is becoming obsolete. That is up from just 28 percent in 1978.

SAN DIEGO, CA, August 29, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When researchers look at the number of marriages, divorces and families from history, say 1950-1960, they will notice that there is a dramatic difference in the numbers from today. So does that mean that marriage went out the window with the cool cars from those times too? Keep in mind, while the number of marriages today is still declining, the number of happy and functional families out there is still on the rise. It brings up the questions of whether or not marriage is becoming obsolete or not? Love is something that truly makes the world go around but with over a 20% drop in marriages does that mean the love is gone or that the support behind marriage has just dropped?

Even with the decline in marriage rates, love and families are really pulling through better than some of our parents did! In fact, in a 2008 study done almost 50% of couples said that they felt closer with their relationships and families than they did with their own while growing up. So what actually counts as a "family"? Thousands of single parents out there will tell people that they just need one child and one parent to be a family which is true when it comes to statistics however, if a couple doesn't have a kid then they do not count as a family in most studies. Some people even speculate that the economy has something to do with the decline in marriage and relationship education.

It is clear that even though marriage is still a strong part of our society and culture that not everyone out there feels marriages makes a happy home and family. Divorce is an ever present threat though and even though there is still a 50% chance a marriage will end in divorce, people still feel like marriage is something to risk it on all because of love. What is love and family will always prevail even if the couple chose not to get married and raise a family the way previous generations did.
