It will also be celebrated as the day New Home East is returning to an area that is slowly but surely coming back alive after a burial of destruction from Katrina. New Home Family Worship Center will have its first re-opening service Easter Sunday Morning; service time is 7:00a.m., 13800 Hayne Blvd., in New Orleans East. RC feels the unction to return to East New Orleans because many of the people who have returned to the area are calling for the presence of the ministry to return to the community. "I believe that a spiritual presence in that area can serve to escalate hope and optimism. The message that I have for East New Orleans is one of God reliance, self empowerment and positive thinking," Blakes said.
It certainly is difficult to determine if the area could sustain the ministry. Blakes alleged the church did not get enough money to restore the facilities. The chapel building has to be fully restored and the Multi-Purpose Building is in need of a $200,000 roof. Most of this work will have to take place after the church is re-opened.
Pastor RC Blakes, Jr. will conduct early morning worship every Sunday following at 7 a.m. Bible study will continue to take place at the 1616 Carondelet Street location every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. It's been almost two years since he has stood to minister in the church he started almost two decades ago. Pastor RC replies that it's going to be an exciting and emotional time for him. He also believes that the church can and will return to even a greater form of glory than in the past.
