    NORCROSS, GA, September 23, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Burt Reynolds checked into drug rehab in Florida after suffering a bad fall at his home. The fall made the 73 year old actor realize he had grown dependent on prescription painkillers. After his release Reynolds made the following statement;

"I felt that in spite of the fact I am supposedly a big tough guy, I couldn't beat prescription drugs on my own. I've worked hard to get off of them and really hope other people will realize they need to seek professional help, rather than ignoring the problem or trying to get off of the prescriptions on their own."

He was discharged from the drug rehabilitation center this week after completing a 30-day detox treatment program. Previously the actor had confessed to a drug addiction to the sleep aid Halcion after trying to escape pain from a joint disorder in the 1980's.

Reynolds stated that he hoped going public with his substance abuse would help ease the stigma associated with drug addiction;

"This has been a challenging time for me personally, and I really appreciate the outpouring of love and support from my fans, friends and family. I am looking forward to getting back to teaching and working."

Reynolds' story is unfortunately not unique prescription drug abuse is a growing problem in our country. 25 million people reported being addicted to some form of drugs.

Mary Rieser, director of Narconon Georiga, a drug rehabilitation facility stated "It is the lucky ones who find a way into drug treatment. Millions of others can't or won't get help. Celebrities coming forward and sharing their success stories definitely helps get more people into treatment."

Narconon of Georgia supports drug education and provides drug rehabilitation for all those addicted to drugs and for those in danger of becoming addicted. In October Narconon will sponsor Operation Medicine Cabinet, which is a program designed to get unused prescription drugs off the street.
