Ms. Newton is a writer, data processing executive, and consultant, currently holding the position of president at the company she founded, RN Enterprises in Columbia. Originally a French instructor, she utilized her teaching experience to become a prolific author of curriculum books that have proliferated along with the growth of the personal home computer. From WordPerfect to America Online, Ms. Newton served as an indispensible guide in the '80s and '90s for those mystified by the digital world.

Born in Lexington, North Carolina, to Jacob Calvin and Mary Louise Leonard, Ms. Leonard studied French at Duke University and taught at Hampton Public Schools in Virginia. She earned a master's degree in education from Old Dominion University in 1965 and went on to Virginia Beach Public Schools. In 1967, she became an instructor of foreign language methodology classes at several colleges and universities in Virginia and taught foreign language teacher recertification classes for the VA State Department of Education. Ms. Newton arrived in Columbia in 1975 and joined and participated in several civic groups. She was appointed by City Council as a member of the Columbia Planning Commission. She was on the Board of Directors of the United Way of the Midlands and was a Board member of the Association of Junior Leagues, International in New York City.

In 1983, Ms. Newton founded The Computer Experience, Incorporated in Columbia, and served as its president. For some, the language of computers is as foreign as the French language, and Ms. Newton was able to use her teaching and learning experience as a French instructor to design curriculums for computers. She is proud of leading a large, successful venture using her marketing skills. In 1988, Ms. Newton released "WordPerfect," and one year later, she released "All About Computers," marking the first in a series of instructional books for computer software that were beginning to become more and more commonplace in work and in homes. She has covered instructions for DOS, Lotus, Display/Write, Filemaker Pro, Quick Books, Excel, and America Online, as well as variations on programs for Macintosh systems. In 1991, Ms. Newton founded a new company, RN Enterprises, a computer training & consulting company where she continued to develop & offer software instruction & consultation services to businesses & corporations in North & South Carolina.

In her civic duty, Ms. Newton was appointed to the South Carolina Real Estate Appraisers Board in 2000 where she served as a Board member until 2014. She also was a Board member of Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community. She has served on the Board of the South Carolina Wildlife Federation, and Trinity Cathedral, as a member of the vestry. She was a trustee of the Heathwood Hall Episcopal School in Columbia from 1979 to 1985. Ms. Newton is also affiliated with The Investment Club and was on the SC Midlands Chapter Board of the National Association Investors Corporation.

Mrs. Newton was recognized as one of the "Outstanding Young Women of America" in its 1971 publication. For her achievements in computer education, Ms. Newton was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who of American Women, two volumes of Who's Who in the World, and two volumes of Who's Who in Science and Engineering from 1994 to 2004. Ms. Newton has three children, Blair Newton Jones, Allison Newton Satchell, and William Brockenbrough Newton, III. She enjoys golf and walking.
