Richard T. Murphy Jr. Honored for Excellence in Sustainable Real Estate Development

On November 23 of this year, Richard T. Murphy Jr. was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

    MINNEAPOLIS, MN, November 26, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard T. Murphy Jr., president and chief executive officer of Murphy Warehouse Company, has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in sustainable real estate development. On November 23 of this year, he was inducted into the College of Fellows of the American Society of Landscape Architects, and in 2013 he was inducted into Lambda Alpha International, the honorary society for the advancement of land economics.

Mr. Murphy has 31 years of experience as the president and CEO of Murphy Warehouse Company. Throughout his career, he has established himself as an expert in landscape architecture, logistics and transportation, design and real estate development. On a daily basis, he oversees and manages all aspects of the company, including logistics, warehousing, transportation, and value-added and international services. The company recently expanded into the Kansas City market and has 3 logistics facilities there in addition to 11 in the Minneapolis area.

Murphy Warehouse Company has been helping customers move, store and ship freight throughout the Upper Midwest and internationally since it was founded in the early twentieth century. The company's team of more than 180 dedicated employees is experienced in providing customers with excellent logistics solutions, no matter how complex the assignment. Looking back, Mr. Murphy attributes his success in running a business with family values to the wonderful team of people that work for him. After all, Murphy Warehouse Company has been a family business since 1904. Though he successfully began his career as a designer, Mr. Murphy became involved in the logistics and real estate arena when he eventually took over as the fourth-generation leader of the family enterprises. His leadership ensures that Murphy Warehouse Company is an innovative company, willing to try new things while maintaining a high degree of customer service excellence. The company is proud of its great reputation and aims to maintain it.

Mr. Murphy received an MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota in 1986, having earned a Master of Landscape Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design in 1980, as well as a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Minnesota's Institute of Technology in 1975. In addition to his degrees, he became a licensed Landscape Architect in 1983 and a certified logistics professional through IWLA (the International Warehouse Logistics Association) in 2009. He was recently inducted into Worldwide Registry and also maintains affiliation with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, WERC, IWLA, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Urban Land Institute, the U.S. Green Building Council, Beta Gamma Sigma and Vistage International.

During the University of Minnesota's 2014 homecoming, Mr. Murphy was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award. In 2010, he received an Extraordinary Service to the Industry Award through IWLA. His other honors and recognitions include a Minnesota Engineering Excellence Honor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Minnesota in 2009, a Public Service Award from the American Society of Landscape Architects' Minnesota Chapter in 2006, a William K. Smith Distinguished Service Award from the University of Minnesota's Center for Transportation Studies in 2006 and a Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of Minnesota's College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in 2005.

In the coming years, Mr. Murphy has plans to purchase more new buildings and continue growing the business outside the Twin Cities region. Looking forward, he intends to slowly work on putting a transition plan into place for the next generation.
