With 11,000 expected runners slated to participate in the Saturday, November 10, 2007 race, Richmond is sure to be buzzing with excitement on this brilliant autumn weekend in November. Offering more than simply a marathon, Sports Backers is also sponsoring the NTELOS 8K and the Times - Dispatch Kids Run. With an 8:00 a.m. marathon time and an 8:35 a.m. 8K race start-time, Richmond will be awake early to the sound of many feet hitting the pavement.
In January of 2005, Runner's World magazine named the Sun Trust Richmond Marathon as "America's Friendliest Marathon". They profiled it along with 11 others that featured as offering, "Big Fun, Big Scenery, Big Rewards". The July/August issue of Marathon & Beyond gave the marathon a wonderful review with a subtitle that read, "'Friendliest Marathon' is an Operating Philosophy, not just a Flippant Motto".
Following the marathon that night, from 7-11 p.m., Toad's Place on the Canal Walk in downtown Richmond, not far from the marathon's finish line, is hosting a celebratory concert featuring Alex Band. Best known for his work with The Calling, Alex Band will light up the stage following the opening show performed by Shane Hines.
