Ridgefield Park, NJ Dentist Explains the Procedure of a Root Canal

Local dentist gives detailed information about a root canal. Dr. Sherzoy said: "No need to lose your tooth when you can repair and save your tooth by having a root canal done."

BOGOTA, NJ, June 18, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ever wonder what a root canal is? A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or has become infected. During the root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inner side of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Now many who are thinking about the nerve being taken out are worried that this may affect their health of their tooth. In truth, the nerve mostly provides sensory feeling to the tooth, providing the sensation of hot or cold. The absence of the nerve will not affect your everyday life functioning of the tooth. When a tooth's nerve tissue or pulp is damaged it causes to break down and the bacteria begin to multiply within the pulp chamber. For those that are not aware, a pulp chamber contains all the nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue in your teeth, which enter through the base of the tooth's root, travel up through the root canal and gather at the pulp chamber. Bacteria and other tooth decays can cause a serious infection and an abscessed tooth. Now, many are wondering what an abscessed tooth is? An abscess is a pus-filled pocket that forms at the end of the root of the tooth. An abscess occurs when the infection spreads all the way past the end of the root of the tooth.

Symptoms that one may need a root canal are: severe toothache, pain upon chewing or application of pressure, prolonged sensitivity/pain to hot or cold temperatures, darkening of the tooth, swelling and tenderness in the gums, and persistent or recurring pimples on the gums. Dr. Sherzoy has said, "If one is feeling these symptoms they should not hesitate to come in, I assure the best quality of work." The procedure of a root canal may require one or more office visits and can be performed by a dentist. Anesthesia is used to numb the area near the tooth, many times anesthesia may not be necessary, since the nerve is dead. Dr. Sherzoy has stated that he still apply anesthesia to the area to give more comfort to the patient. For over 15 years, Dr. Sherzoy has been in practice and has specialized in many procedures such as root canals.
