Robert B. Dick, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    CINCINNATI, OH, September 11, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Robert B. Dick, PhD, Capt. USPHS (Ret.) with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Dick began his 33-year career in the US Public Health Service with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in 1967-69 serving in Washington, D.C., Ft. Worth, Tx., and Los Angeles, Ca. as a field representative for narcotic rehabilitation services. He returned to NIMH in 1972 assigned to the Atlanta, Ga. regional office as mental health consultant and later as a branch chief in the alcohol, drug abuse, and mental health division. In 1981 he was transferred to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH) in Cincinnati, Oh as a research scientist. NIOSH is a research agency that focuses on the as a study of worker safety and health, as well as the empowerment of employees and workers to create safe and healthy workplaces. A part CDC it has the mandate to assure every man and woman in the nation safe and healthful working conditions and to preserve human resources.

With more than 1,300 hundred employees, NIOSH employs people from diverse professional backgrounds, including epidemiology, medicine, nursing, industrial hygiene, safety, psychology, chemistry, statistics, economics, and many branches of engineering. At NIOSH his research career spanned both laboratory and field research on the effects of solvents, metals, pesticides on workers. From 1982 until retirement, he authored or co-authored 22 scientific articles and four book chapters in the peer reviewed literature. Since 2000, although retired he has continued to be actively involved in scientific research at NIOSH switching to the fields of ergonomics and human factors working as a contractor and visiting scientist which has resulted in authoring or co-authoring eight additional publications and one book chapter. Recent works include: "Evidence of Health Risks Associated with Prolonged Standing and Intervention Effectiveness" and "Reducing Musculoskeletal Disorders Among Airport Baggage Screeners and Handlers" in 2015, and "Wearable Exoskeletons to Reduce Physical Load at Work" in March 2016. His work has also been published in books, including the third edition of "Physical and Biological Hazards of the Workplace" edited by Stave and Wild in 2017. Dr. Dick has also been on part time faculty at University of Cincinnati (1996, 2002-2006) and Xavier University (1998-2001).

Dr. Dick graduated from Tecumseh High School, Tecumseh, Michigan in 1960 and received a Bachelor's degree, cum laude, at Michigan State University in 1964, followed by a Master's degree at the University of South Dakota in 1966 and a Ph.D. at Oklahoma State University in 1972. During his long career, he has received numerous Public Health Service awards including 3 PHS Unit Citations, an individual citation and 2 Commendation medals and a CDC letter of commendation. He was recognized in Who's Who in the Midwest (1993) and Who's Who in Engineering and Sciences (1994) and served on the Editorial Advisory Board for Neurotoxicology and Teratology from 1989-1997.

Currently he is a member of the Association for Psychological Science, Sigma Xi, and Commissioned Officer Association of U.S. Public Health Service and past member of the International Neurotoxicology Association, the Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S., and the Behavioral Toxicology Society.
