With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Cowdroy is a widely renowned architect, development manager, educator and researcher. He is perhaps best known for research in the areas of empirical proof, and the mental process of inspiration and creative block. Since the turn of the century, Dr. Cowdroy has served as a conjoint research professor with the University of Newcastle. He maintains active involvement with the Australian Institute of Architects as a lifetime member, in addition to being a member of the Financial Council of the Catholic Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.
Prior to pursuing a scientific career, Dr. Cowdroy received a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of New South Wales in 1966. During this time, he worked in development management for various companies throughout Australia. Dr. Cowdroy later received a Master of Applied Science through the University of Sydney, as well as an MBA through the University of Newcastle, in 1986. Upon completing a PhD in Management Psychology through the University of Newcastle in 1992, he began serving as a professor for a term of nearly two decades. In fact, Dr. Cowdroy has served as a member of the academic staff with the University of Newcastle for more than 30 years, rising to President of Senate and member of Council of the University.
Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Cowdroy has contributed numerous scientific papers to publications pertaining to his areas of expertise. In addition, he was a guest of the French Ministry of Culture in 2000. Dr. Cowdroy previously served as a special education advisor to the Australian Government Productivity Commission. He also completed higher education research for the European Union between 1995 and 2004. In recognition of his contributions to development management and education, Dr. Cowdroy has been featured in a wide range of honors publications, including the 27th, 31st, 32nd and 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World, which were published between 2009 and 2016. He was previously recognized as an RAIA St. Regis Research Fellow in 1976.
