Robert Skladony Honored for Excellence in Energy Engineering

Robert Skladony concluded his 30-year career at USPowerGen

YONKERS, NY, September 30, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ --Robert Skladony, who retired as Vice President and General Manager from USPowerGen, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in energy engineering.

Mr. Skladony enjoyed a fruitful three decades in the energy industry. In 2008, he concluded his career at US Power Generating Company, where he was in charge of New York City operations. His responsibilities included supervising the maintenance and operation of steam and gas turbine plants, managing capital and O&M projects, and overseeing budgeting and cost control of plant operations to maximize plants' earning capabilities. Additionally, he was charged with developing short- and long-term strategies to enhance the operating life of plants, and ensuring the maintenance of power plant equipment.

A respected authority on mechanical engineering, Mr. Skladony is a published writer. He wrote the article "Reverse Thrusting of Industrial GE MS5001 Gas Turbines" for the January 1988 issue of Turbomachinery International magazine, and jointly published a paper for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) entitled, "Starting System Upgrade for General Electric Frame 5 Gas Turbine Generators." More recently, he published a feature, "Lubricant Additive Regains Lost Turbine Capacity," in the June 2000 issue of Power Engineering magazine. Mr. Skladony attributes the success that he enjoyed in various aspects of his industry to his hard work and willingness to put in long hours.

Mr. Skladony received his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering in 1978 from Manhattan College. He is affiliated with the ASME and the Combustion Turbine Operations Task Force, and sits on the board of directors of Sacred Heart High School. He gives generously to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and participates in the The Breast Cancer Research Foundation's Revlon Walk for Breast Cancer. Though officially in retirement, Mr. Skladony is open to opportunities to offer consulting services on the business of power generation.

USPowerGen owns and operates 58 generating units at six facilities with a capacity of over 5,000 megawatts. Its subsidiaries sell energy and capacity into the NYISO and ISO-New England deregulated markets. The energy it generates can serve approximately 20 percent of the overall load in New York City and 50 percent of the overall load in the Boston metropolitan area.
