Mr. Messner is a passionate historian and the founder and director of Braddock's Battlefield History Center. After 20 years of preparation, he formed the center in 2012 after raising enough funds. Once the doors were officially opened to the public, he was honored with an article written by "The Wall Street Journal," called 'The Battlefield in Pittsburgh's Backyard.' Located where the famous battle began, Braddock's Battlefield History Center has more than 250 artifacts and 50 works of art and a video room with various DVDs of the period. Offering guided and self-directed tours, they are open on Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon to 4 p.m.

A former tenured attorney and bank executive of more than 40 years, Mr. Messner first served with Rose, Schmidt & Dixon in Pittsburgh from 1965 to 1968 before dedicating 18 years to G.C. Murphy Company. There, Mr. Messner served as corporate secretary, general counsel and vice president. He then spent another 22 years in the same capacity for Dollar Bank until 2008. . He has held a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College since 1960 and an LLB from the University of Pennsylvania since 1963. He was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in 1965.

During his tenure with G.C. Murphy Company, Mr. Messner served as the director of the G.C. Murphy Foundation. Founded in 1952 as a charitable arm of the company, the foundation is now an independent, nonprofit corporation that makes annual grants to civic, educational, and cultural charitable organizations, primarily in western Pennsylvania. Locally, Mr. Messner is renowned for his involvement as a member of the Point State Park planning committee in the City of Pittsburgh and as a member of the Mayor's Committee on Fort Duquesne in Pittsburgh. A former member of the advisory board for the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission in the late 1960's, he was also a republican candidate for the Pennsylvania Legislature in 1966. Mr. Messner has served on the board of directors for the Braddock Carnegie Library Association since 1994 and the McKeesport Heritage Center since 2003, and has been on the boards of directors for several other local organizations.

Mr. Messner is the author of the 2005 book "Reflections from Braddock's Field." A longstanding member of the American Bar Association and the American Corporate Counsel Association, he is a member and former chair of the Corporate Law Department committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, member and member of the council on Corporate, Banking, and Business Law of the Allegheny County Bar Association and member and former president of the Pittsburgh regional group and director of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals.

Honored in more than 35 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the World, Mr. Messner also received the Army Commendation Medal as commanding officer of an intelligence unit in Korea and briefing officer for the commanding general, UN Forces in Korea.
