Roberto Rodriguez Esteves Honored for Accomplishments in System Design

Mr. Rodriguez has key lead roles in eight major projects for the oil and gas industry.

"Balance is the most desirable state of a healthy human being," says Mr. Rodriguez.

CALGARY, AB, October 28, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Roberto Rodriguez Esteves, President of Management Consulting at The Flying Kite Incorporated, was recently named a VIP member of Worldwide Branding. This special distinction honors individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to achieving personal and professional success.

Mr. Rodriguez has 29 years of professional experience, having recently become the president of management consulting at The Flying Kite Incorporated. Over the years, he has grown to become an expert in processing improvement, project management, quality management, communication, change management, risk management, leadership, and team-building. On a daily basis, he is responsible for providing consulting services, managing and executing projects for oil and gas industries, as well as coordinating auditing efforts. Mr. Rodriguez has experience in developing and certifying Quality Management Systems and serves as a focus point for external audits. In addition, he has performed human resources functions that go from the selection process, to development of personnel, to assisting in the creation of succession plans, with the objective of improving employee and company performance, while assuring customer satisfaction.

Mr. Rodriguez started his career as a structural and NDE engineer working for an Airline in Venezuela. He specialized in nondestructive testing while working in Hawaii in several industries. He returned to Venezuela to work within the oil and gas industry in 1991 and has been working for the industry ever since. Some of the positions that he has held include construction engineer, project engineer, engineering manager, project manager, and quality and HSE director and manager of capital projects. Mr. Rodriguez feels that his most defining trait is his ability to build effective teams. His largest and most successful team was the one he led while working as project manager for a project for GASCO. The team managed to complete the project under budget and on schedule, even though parts of the scope completely changed in the middle of the execution. His special challenges included: joining the project as a project manager in month three of a nine-month project due to the previous project manager being demobilized; unstable reservoir data; and underground as built data missing. This FEED project was regarded by the client as successful.

"Balance is the most desirable state of a healthy human being," says Mr. Rodriguez. "This may mean something different for each individual. In essence though, it means learning to balance between work, family, body, spirit and society. If you find yourself investing too much of your time in a single area, typically work, think about what you may be sacrificing and potentially jeopardizing."

"Quality is in everything that you do. Doing everything with quality is not a given, though. It comes through a continuous learning process that accepts failure as a significant contributor, aided by the ability to transform substandard work processes into effective ones."

Mr. Rodriguez is currently providing consulting services as Manager, Capital Projects to Quattro Exploration and Production, a junior Oil & Gas company out of Alberta. Among his other roles, Mr. Rodriguez was also the director of quality, health and safety environment, and a senior project manager for SNC-LAVALIN Hydrocarbons & Chemicals Business Unit, as well as the engineering and document control manager for Husky Energy Inc., and engineering manager at Canadian Natural Resources Limited, and engineering superintendent at the upgrader of AMERIVEN S.A in Venezuela. The oil and gas industry, like many others, is extremely competitive. One of the things that separate him from the rest is the experience of successfully working in so many roles, from inspection, to construction, to design and management.

Looking back, Mr. Rodriguez attributes his success to his persistence, clarity, and ability to listen and learn. He became involved in the project management profession because of his desired and ability of working with people. He is a mechanical engineer by trade and started his career in the inspection of metals side. He then became involved in the oil and gas industry, coordinating engineering projects. After pursuing further studies and gaining sufficient experience in project management, he moved to the quality side of the industry to have more of an impact on the profession. Another highlight of his career was completing a major project in the Refinery of Amuay (Flexigas Cleaning Unit, USD 50 MM), under budget and with only 60 punch list items; this was achieved through establishing the team as a culture whereby project team, client, contractors and vendors worked together on early identification and correction of issues during construction.

Mr. Rodriguez received a post graduate degree in Management of Engineering Projects at Universidad Católica Andres Bello in 1998, having received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Portland in 1985. In addition to his degrees, he is an ISO 9001:2008 certified lead auditor with a project management professional license (PMP). He has also completed numerous leadership and personal development seminars. To remain in contact with other industry professionals, he has become a member of the Project Management Institute; the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA); and the RABQSA International Association (now Exemplar Global). Mr. Rodriguez has opened his own consulting firm in July of 2013, "The Flying Kite Incorporated", which is based on a project execution model designed by him that combines quality and project management concepts and best practices. He intends to achieve continued growth through performing consulting and process improvement work in Project Management and Execution.
