In July 2010, in parternship with Barclays Capital, Mr. Platenkamp founded Tulip Oil, a Netherlands-based oil and gas development company. Utilizing his 30 years of industry knowledge and expertise in leadership, organization and management, he supervises the management team and addresses issues regarding strategy and new business. In addition to his role as executive chairman of Tulip Oil, Mr. Platenkamp is also the owner and chief executive officer of RJ Platenkamp Consultancy, which he started in March 2010.

Attributing his success to his technical understanding and ability to create teams, Mr. Platenkamp is also able to get the most out of the people he works with. He became involved in his profession because he did fundamental research at the university, but wanted to travel to exciting places to help find energy.

Mr. Platenkamp holds a Doctorate in Science, Mathematics and Physics from Leiden University. In 1975, he won a Chemistry Award from Unilever. In the next few years, Mr. Platenkamp hopes to grow the business to become a well-established enterprise worth in excess of $1 billion.
