Roger Geoffrey Mazlen Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Excellence in Pharmacology and Medicine

    ROSLYN, NY, May 03, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Roger Geoffrey Mazlen has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

For more than five decades, Dr. Mazlen has met with success in the field of pharmacology. Now semi-retired, he concluded his active, full-time career in 2008 as a senior faculty member and senior attending physician for the endocrinology and metabolism department at Mount Sinai Medical Hospital, a role that he held since 1972. Previously, he came to prominence as a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard Medical School and Peter Bent Bringham Hospital, resident in medicine with the Maimonides Medical Center and adjunct assistant professor of medicine at New York Medical College. Other noteworthy roles held in Dr. Mazlen's career include assistant director of clinical research with Ayerst Laboratories, associate medical director for Pfizer Inc. and research associate for the National Institute of Health, under the mentorship of Christian Anderson, Jr., Nobel Prize chemist.

While employed with the laboratories, he designed and monitored the entire research program for the introduction and approval of Inderal for the treatment of hypertension (the first beta blocker recognized and approved in the United States). Dr. Mazlen also wrote the new drug application that was presented to the FDA. Another aspect of clinical research that he was involved in at Mount Sinai Medical School was his work with a researcher from the department of microbiology. They performed original research into the cause of chronic fatigue system (C.F.I.D.S.), which was published and presented to the CDC. They also completed additional studies funded by the CDC to find a significant bio marker.

In recognition of his professional excellence, Dr. Mazlen was selected for inclusion into Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East, and Who's Who in the World.

Before establishing himself professionally, Dr. Mazlen prepared for his career by investing in his education. He earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1959 and an MD from the State University of New York, Brooklyn, in 1963. He also took post-graduate courses at the NIH by renowned scientists such as Bruce Ames. To stay at the top of his field, he is a fellow of the American College of Nutrition and a member of the American Chemistry Society, the Society for Natural Immunity, the American College of Cardiology, and for many years the American Society of Clinical Pharmacologists and Therapeutics. In 1967 he was awarded the U.S. Public Health Service Postdoctoral Fellowship and Grant to do clinical research at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Massachusetts.

In addition, Dr. Mazlen has taken on career opportunities outside of his profession to increase his impact on his industry. He has served as a consultant in clinical nutrition and metabolism at South Oaks Hospital, chief science officer for Bimolecular Science, Inc., and consultant for the Professional Children's School. As he looks to the future, Dr. Mazlen intends to enjoy his semi-retirement while taking on new projects and opportunities as they arise. His most recent endeavor is as an expert medical lecturer for the SASS Foundation for Medical Research.
