Role of Laparoscopy in Organ Donation - Dr.R.K.Mishra
IMA Convention Hall, New Delhi. - Prof.Dr.R.K.Mishra has highlighted the advantage of Laparoscopic Surgery on the Organ Donation.

    NEW DELHI, INDIA, October 06, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- All India Seminar on organ donation was organised by The Lifecare Foundation of India. The chief guest of this seminar was Dr. Ashok Walia, Finance Minister of India and Dr. Harshvardhan, BJP President and former health minister of Delhi. Hundreds of Delegates from all over India has participated in this seminar and many surgeons, social workers and leaders were present their opinion on organ donation. Because there is a large number of patients who need organ transplants all over the world and because this number is increasing rapidly, the need for organ donations has increased too leading to a shortage in organs. The President of The lifecare foundation Mr. Deepak Dube has announced that his organization in donating an Ambulance for organ Donation to AIIMS. People without medical ethics took advantage of this shortage and started a business known as 'organ trafficking. Prof. Dr. R.K. Mishra has highlighted the advantage of laparoscopic donor nephrectomy, laparoscopic donor pncreatectomy and laparoscopic liver donation. Prof. Mishra said that "The most commonly transplanted organ is the kidney from living donors and only a few select countries have active deceased donor transplants. The live donor should undergo surgery by laparoscopy. Shortage of dead donors has also affected the average number of kidney transplants being performed which is about 15 per million people as compared to 27 in Europe and 52 in the US.
