Ronald Waynant Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Optical Engineering
Laser Medicine and Therapy Research Specialist with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration

    ROCKVILLE, MD, December 3, 2008 /Cambridge Who's Who/ -- Ronald Waynant, Senior Optical Engineer with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of optical engineering.

Dr. Waynant has 46 years of professional experience in engineering and specializes in the research and development of laser applications for medical devices. His focus is on therapeutic laser medicine, laser generated x-rays and infrared fiber optics. In addition to his work with the FDA, he is an adjunct associate professor at the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences in Bethesda.

An avid public speaker and lecturer, Dr. Waynant coordinated seven conferences for the Engineering Conferences International Organization regarding lasers, laser medicine and laser therapy. He was proud to be invited as a guest speaker regarding the mechanisms of laser therapy at the MIRTHE Group conference held in August of 2008. An author and research specialist, Dr. Waynant has published over 110 journal articles, has issued over 120 presentations and has 10 patents. He edited five books on topics including electro-optics and laser medicine as well as four issues of IEEE LEOS Journal of Special Topics in Quantum Electronics.

Dr. Waynant received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Catholic University of America and is a chairman of a conference of the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE). He was editor-in-chief of the IEEE Circuits and Devices Magazine for 20 years and is a fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the Optical Society of America, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
