REDWOOD CITY, CA, March 11, 2010
/24-7PressRelease/ -- The San Mateo County Bar Association's (SMCBA) Barristers, an organization of more than 300 new lawyers committed to professional growth, community service and serving as advocates for its members, named Brock Lyle, an attorney with Ropers Majeski Kohn & Bentley, as president. Appointed at the recent SMCBA Annual Judges' Luncheon, Lyle, who has been a Barristers board member for three years and previously served as treasurer, will serve a one-year term.
"Many of our firm's attorneys have benefited from their involvement in the Barristers organization, so we are especially delighted that Brock has been appointed president of this dynamic group of tomorrow's leaders," said Rick Wilson, managing partner for Ropers Majeski.
Membership in the Barristers is open to all SMCBA members 36 years old and younger or who have been in law practice for less than 10 years. The group holds monthly continuing education programs focused on preparing new attorneys for a career in law; coordinates a number of networking events that encourage interaction with other bar members; and hosts a bi-monthly brown-bag series with members of the judiciary. The Barristers also perform philanthropic services for the community, including an annual Build Day for Habitat for Humanity and numerous other fundraisers benefiting local charities, law libraries and legal organizations. As president, Lyle oversees an 11-member board and will focus on expanding educational programs, improving outreach methods and furthering the Barristers' mission of assisting young and new lawyers in San Mateo County.
At Ropers Majeski, Lyle focuses his commercial litigation practice on real estate, insurance defense, intellectual property and employment matters. He also has experience in international business, corporate transactions and corporate formation. Lyle previously externed for the Hon. David W. Hagen of the United States District Court in Reno, Nev., the Hon. E. Richard Webber of the United States District Court in St. Louis, Mo, and the general counsel of Nutraceutical International Corporation in Park City, Utah.
Lyle earned his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law (2005), where he served as an Editor of the Washington University Global Studies Law Review. He received his B.A. in comparative literature from Brigham Young University (2002). Active in the community, Lyle also serves on the board of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society and the BYU Management Society, Silicon Valley Chapter; teaches an early morning religious study class to local high school students for his church; and is a member of the Valparaiso Singers, a small choral ensemble based in Menlo Park.
