LANSING, MI, July 22, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- Rachelle Neal was recently appointed president of the Rotary Club of Lansing. Proceeding former president Mark Hooper, CPA, Neal looks forward to taking on the challenging position and applying her knowledge and experience to help better the Lansing community.
Neal has always had a strong business drive. She graduated from Michigan State University with a M.A. in communications and marketing. After working for some large companies, she saw an opportunity to begin her own business, Capital Research Services. In a recent interview, Neal was asked, "Why did you decide to start your own company?" She said, "After I was out in the workplace and I worked for some other people, I started seeing some opportunities on my own. It was a struggle for a while...I think it is much better for women today. I am a member of Rotary, and I just see the number of women and how the club has changed even since I've joined."
Neal is enthusiastic about the changes that she can make to the Rotary Club as their new president. Neal has ample experience to bring to the table, including trustee of the Capital Region Community Foundation Member and member of the Board of Directors for Sparrow Development, Inc. She was also Vice Chair of the 2007 YMCA Annual Campaign and a Member of the Great Lakes Chapter of the Marketing Research Association.
Neal is a strong advocate of being involved in the community. She knows the importance of making connections and forming relationships with people outside of her own business. In a recent interview, she said, "Become involved in the community. Get to know the people here; go out and volunteer for different organizations ... Sometimes people become so focused on their business that they don't see how being involved in the community can benefit their business. It does in so many ways. It creates awareness, people become familiar with you and feel comfortable with you. ...So that would be my advice. Go out in the community and be active."
The Rotary Club of Lansing was founded in 1916 as the 232nd Club in the Rotary International family. Within six months the club eliminated a so-called "death curve" on Okemos Road, donated much-needed footballs to the Boy's Training School, spearheaded a city-wide vote that established a garbage-collection system for the city of Lansing, sponsored a charity ball to help raise money to pave the road between Lansing and East Lansing, and began a tradition of annual Christmas parties for underprivileged children.
