With nearly 25 years of research and teaching experience to her name, Dr. Perez currently works as an associate professor of biomedical sciences at Texas Tech University's Center of Emphasis in Neurosciences at the Health Sciences Center of Paul L. Foster School of Medicine & Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in El Paso. Earlier in her career, she served as a postdoctoral research fellow with Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women's Hospital. From there, she became associate professor of neurology for the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine.
A graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Perez holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology, a Master's degree in Psychology, and a PhD in Neurobiology. Her professional affiliations include the American Chemical Society, the International Society for Neurochemistry, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Society for Neuroscience.
Throughout her career, Dr. Perez has won numerous awards for her work, including Coldwell Foundation Awards, and the New Faculty Award through the Allegheny University of Health Sciences. Additionally, she has served as a member of the board of directors for the Hub of Human Innovation in El Paso, as a visiting scholar for Fudan University School of Medicine/Huashan Hospital and for Shandong University/Pharmacology. Looking toward the future, Dr. Perez intends to experience continued success in her career by training a new generation of biomedical scientists, identifying novel protective therapies, and making a difference for those suffering from neurodegenerative diseases.
