/24-7PressRelease/ - Boston, MA, May 31, 2008 - If you've ever toyed with the idea of learning how to sail, here's a chance to find out what it's like to actually take the helm of a sailboat for a while - and at no charge - before deciding to take the plunge.
The Boston Sailing Center, one of the area's oldest and most popular sailing schools for adults, will hold an open house reception at its Lewis Wharf headquarters on Saturday, June 21 from 1pm to 4pm.
Part of the festivities will include the opportunity to take a free sail aboard one of the Center's fleet of boats, giving first-time sailors a chance to experience what it's like to control a substantial boat (25-40 feet in length) while under sail.
Trained skippers will be on board to explain a sailboat's working parts, describe how sailors use the wind to propel the boat forward, and reveal some of the tricks of navigating an active waterway like Boston Harbor.
Back on land, teaching staff will be available to answer questions about the school's award-winning Learn to Sail course. Those who sign up for the 26-hour course during the event will receive a $100 discount off the regular course fee ($795). Discounts on advanced courses and one-year sailing memberships will also be available.
The Boston Sailing Center is located on a converted Louisiana riverboat docked at Lewis Wharf, a short walk from Faneuil Hall Marketplace and the Aquarium T station (Blue Line).
