Give sailing a try at the Boston Sailing Center.
BOSTON, MA, June 17, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- If you've ever toyed with the idea of learning how to sail, here's a chance to find out what it's like to actually take the helm of a sailboat for a while - and at no charge - before embarking on a comprehensive beginner's course.
The Boston Sailing Center, one of the nation's oldest and most respected sailing schools for adults, will host an open house reception at its Lewis Wharf headquarters on Saturday, June 27 from 1pm to 5pm.
Festivities will include the opportunity to take a free sail aboard one of the Center's fleet of boats, giving first-time sailors a chance to experience what it's like to control a powerful sailboat (up to 40 feet in length) while under sail.
Trained skippers will be on board to supervise the excursion, explain a sailboat's working parts, describe how sailors use the wind to propel the boat, and reveal some of the tricks of navigating an active waterway like Boston Harbor.
Back on land, teaching staff will be available to answer questions about the school's award-winning Learn to Sail course. Those who sign up for the 26-hour course during the event will receive a $100 discount off the regular course fee ($795). Discounts on advanced courses and one-year sailing memberships will also be available.
The Boston Sailing Center has been teaching sailing at all ability levels for over 30 years. Located on a converted Louisiana Riverboat adjacent to the North End, the Center has an active member base of more than 400 local sailors, and is regarded as the premier destination for sailing in New England.
