OVERLAND PARK, KS, January 10, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael Tabman, 24-year FBI veteran and former police officer, offers training on reducing the risk of workplace violence incidents. Tabman says that the violent trend continues as job insecurity, financial losses, corporate misconduct and bureaucratic intransience conspire to create an almost unbearable level of stress. Add additional factors such as marital problems or health issues and almost anyone can be pushed over the edge.

Though the motive for the Saint Louis shooting is unknown, the incident involved a disgruntled worker and a federal lawsuit against his employer's alleged mishandling of retirement funds. A week earlier, there was a deadly shooting at a courthouse in Las Vegas; the gunman was believed to be angered because of losing a lawsuit challenging a cut to his social security benefits. As for workplace violence, 2010 is off to a bad start.

Tabman's company SPIRIT Asset Protection, LLC with offices in Kansas City, KS and Saint Louis, MO provides training to companies to implement plans and procedures for reducing the risk of workplace violence. They stress the need for identifying the warning signs and intervening early. Training includes table top exercises, videos and seminars.

Tabman's new book, Walking the Corporate Beat: Police School for Business People, discusses the red flags of workplace violence as well as the myriad of other business operational risks, drawing upon his 27 years of law enforcement.

SPIRIT Asset Protection plans to host two free seminars on workplace violence prevention, one in Kansas City and one in Saint Louis. If you are interested in attending please call SPIRIT at 913-499-0260 in Kansas City or 314-828-6758 in Saint Louis.

Tabman and Gary Plamp, SPIRIT's Saint Louis area manager made several appearances on local news and radio shows to discuss the Saint Louis tragedy.
