With more than 30 years of industry experience to his credit, Mr. Gerhardstein has worked as the president of Capitol Success Consulting since 2015. He earlier held the positions of director of governmental affairs at Columbia Gas of Ohio, Inc., from 1995 to 2015, director of legislative affairs for the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio from 1993 to 1995, legislative liaison for the Ohio Department of Administrative Services from 1991 to 1993, and an emergency preparedness representative for Toledo Edison from 1987 to 1991. Mr. Gerhardstein began his career as a legislative aide for the Ohio State Senate from 1983 to 1985, and was a research associate at Bowling Green State University from 1986 to 1987.

Before embarking on his professional path, Mr. Gerhardstein enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1974, serving in the rank of Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1978. He then pursued an education at Bowling Green State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science and economics in 1982. Mr. Gerhardstein completed his studies at Bowling Green State University in 1987, graduating with a Master of Public Administration.

Beyond his efforts within the field, Mr. Gerhardstein has contributed to numerous endeavors outside of his professional circles. He served as chairman of the board of directors of the Ohio Public Expenditures Council from 2005 to 2007, having been a member of the board since 2000. He was also a member of the Ottawa County 800 MHz Radio Advisory Board from 1989 to 1991, the Ohio School Net Interagency Advisory Committee from 1993 to 1995, and the Education Technology Equity Commission from 1993 to 1995. A board member of the United Conservatives of Ohio since 2005, Mr. Gerhardstein was the chairman of Taft for Secretary of State in Sandusky County in 1990, a principal of the Republican Senate Campaign Committee in 1983 - 1985, and has been on the Public Affairs Committee and Tax Committee of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce since 1996.

In addition to his primary trade, Mr. Gerhardstein remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. A deputy of the Ohio Business Roundtable from 2004 to 2015, he has maintained membership in the American Legion, American Mensa, Ltd., the BPO Elks, the Ohio Lobbying Association, and the Ohio Gas Association. He is also involved as president of the board of directors for the 1984 Society, vice chair of the board of the Ohio Water Development Authority, a mentor with the Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Central Ohio, and was appointed to the Executive Order of the Ohio Commodore by Governor John Kasich in 2015.

In light of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Gerhardstein has accrued several accolades and honors throughout his impressive career. He was recognized by Opinion Strategies as Most Effective Corporate Lobbyist in 2000. A recipient of the President's Award by Columbia Gas of Ohio in 1999, 2011, and 2015, he was also inducted into the Bellevue High School Halls of Excellence in 2013. Mr. Gerhardstein was additionally selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the Midwest.
