/24-7PressRelease/ - September 16, 2005 - Ruf Records recording artist Candye Kane, took home top blues honors September 12, 2005 for Best Blues Album at the prestigious 15th annual San Diego Music Awards for her CD release "White Trash Girl".
Recorded in Austin, TX her second hometown, "White Trash Girl" is Kane's seventh CD and the first to win her the top honor for Best Blues Album. Kane's win was no surprise to music critics; reviews have been excellent. "It's hard to remember a more satisfying blues album of late" says Jim Trageser of Boot Liquor Radio "this is as good as it gets."
The annual awards ceremony held at Humphrey's by the Bay in San Diego is a fund-raiser for cash-strapped elementary school music-education programs raising close to $70,000 a record-breaking number. The concept is this: Funds from the San Diego Music Awards go to purchasing "Baby" Taylor guitars for schools that may not have the budget to sustain a music program on their own. There is no other program like it in the country. Since the program began, more than 864 guitars have been donated across San Diego County, and more than 40 schools will be actively served by the program in the 2006 school year.
Candye Kane's career has spanned over a decade and amassed numerous awards and honors both at home and abroad, including winning at the prestigious San Diego Music Awards for Best Blues Band six times previously.
In November, at the completion of a 5 month tour in North America punctuated by appearances in Washington DC, Baltimore, New York City and Philadelphia, Kane will resume touring overseas. Earlier this year she performed 75 shows in Europe Scandinavia and the United Arab Emirates.
