CARROLLTON, TX, January 2, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sandra Schwedler, Retired Medical Technologist for Carter BloodCare, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of medical technology.

A registered medical technologist, Ms. Schwedler has 40 years of professional experience in the healthcare industry. She spent 15 years at Carter BloodCare, during which time she was involved in donor testing, setting up quality control on new machines, transmitting test results and reviewing tests in the blood center. She also worked with the computer department, assisted pathologists and tracked down units that needed to be checked. Ms. Schwedler raises show-quality collies and has had 16 champions. Her collie won second place last year out of all the rough collie participants in the United States.

Before joining Carter BloodCare, Ms. Schwedler worked at Parkland Memorial Hospital for 25 years as a supervisor and was in charge of viral testing and donor processing. She was also on call in the front laboratory where she assisted in testing for compatible blood and cross matches. Ms. Schwedler also worked for Wadley Blood Center and served as an inspector for the American Association of Blood Banks where she was responsible for ensuring protocol, making sure the blood banks and laboratories were safe for both patients and the people doing the testing, and checking on the proper destruction of blood.

Ms. Schwedler prides herself on being one of the first at Parkland Memorial Hospital to specialize in blood banking, pass the practical under the grandfather clause, and receive recognition as top instructor of the year in 1980. After volunteering at Baylor University Hospital, she developed an interest in healthcare and decided to pursue a related career. Ms. Schwedler credits her success to her education, work ethic and the inspiration she received from her parents.

In 1962, Ms. Schwedler received her Bachelor's Degree in Biology with a minor in chemistry from Texas Woman's University. A registered blood bank specialist, she is a former member of the South Central Association of Blood Banks and the American Association of Blood Banks and volunteers for local charitable organizations.
