Santa and the Birdie Song ... and Other Bizarre iPhone Insurance Claims Revealed by Specialist Insurer Protect Your Bubble

Probably the most seasonal claim Protect your bubble have had so far, however, is one for an iPhone that was trod on by Santa - who was dancing to the "Birdie Song" at the time.

    WINDSOR, ENGLAND, December 02, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- With December 25th fast approaching, if you are one of the many people who have put a new iPhone on their Christmas list, you may wish to add iPhone insurance to your list too, says Stephen Ebbett from specialist iPhone insurance provider Protect your bubble.

In the last 12 months, 20% of their iPhone insurance customers have made a claim, with almost half of these claims (45%) being for accidental damage - showing just how vulnerable a smartphone can be.

And while the most common claims for accidental damage are phones being dropped in the toilet or bath, here the specialist insurer reveals some of the more bizarre accidental damage claims they have had with claims for an iPhone being:
- dropped from a hot air balloon;
- lost while building a sandcastle;
- used as a table tennis racket;
- buried accidentally in the garden;
- lost while sky-diving;
- dropped in to a food blender;
- damaged by juices from a defrosting piece of meat.

Probably the most seasonal claim they've had so far, however, is one that for an iPhone that was trod on by Santa - who was dancing to the "Birdie Song" at the time. Luckily, it turns out that 'Santa' was in fact a member of the family dressed as Saint Nick. His padded suit made him dance clumsily, causing him to stumble, knock the iPhone on to the floor, miss his footing and tread on the iPhone, cracking the screen.

Mr Ebbett continues: "While these claims did bring a smile to our face, iPhone insurance is still a serious matter." He adds that around 50% of us are at any time carrying gadgets worth up to GBP500 and that 88% of us never leave home without our mobile phones: "So whether your gadgets are accidentally damaged, stolen or lost, it can work out a very expensive business to replace these items if you do not have insurance."

The good news is that iPhone insurance need not be expensive, with cover starting from only GBP5.99 a month. This covers your iPhone against theft, accidental damage, break down outside of the manufacturer's warranty period, with the option to add in loss cover for an extra GBP1 a month, too.

Other than iPhone insurance packages, Protect your bubble also offers gadget insurance on cameras, camcorders, notebooks, Blackberry devices, iPods, iPads mobile phones, game consoles, MP3 players, PC's, PDA's, Macbooks and satnavs from GBP1.49 a month
