Santa Cecilia Orchestra Announces Its 2012-2013 Concert Season

This venerable concert series returns to Thorne Hall at Occidental College and Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock for its 20th season, November 2012 through May 2013.



    SAN DIEGO, CA, August 23, 2012 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Under the baton of Sonia Marie De Leon de Vega, Santa Cecilia Orchestra celebrates its 20th year with a season of three full symphony concerts. Appearing at Thorne Hall on the campus of Occidental College in Los Angeles, the orchestra will host soloists Robert Thies, piano, Yi-Huan Zhao violin, and Salpy Kerkonian, Flute respectively for each of its three orchestral concerts.

The 2012-2013 season will begin with "Triumph" featuring one of Los Angeles' premier pianists, Robert Thies, who will perform Beethoven's Emperor Concerto in the orchestra's first performance of the season. The program concludes with the profound and mighty First Symphony of Brahms.

The February concert, "Celebration" will feature another spirited tribute to the Latin culture, taking works from the Tango enthusiast, Astor Piazzolla, Oblivion and Grand Tango. That same evening will feature works by Vivaldi, Corelli, Mozart and Tchaikovsky.

April's concert, "Exhilaration" features music of two American composers; Michael Torke and Alan Hovhaness. The concert concludes with Beethoven's Symphony No. 7

Sonia Marie De Leon de Vega, Conductor
Maestra De Leon de Vega is world renowned for her skills on the podium as the music director and conductor of the Los Angeles-based Santa Cecilia Orchestra, the only orchestra in the nation with a specific mission to share the beauty and inspiration of classical music with Latino communities.
