/24-7PressRelease/ -- If you have SAP B1 or Microsoft Dynamics GP Great Plains ERP or MRP set of modules implemented in your organization, we would like to offer you this small technical paper, where we are giving you initial excurse in SAP BO and GP customization tools and scenarios. Both small and mid-size business accounting applications are coming from established ERP vendors, such as SAP and Microsoft Business Solutions (Microsoft Dynamics). Dynamics GP is matured Great Plains Dynamics platform, which is chosen by Microsoft to pioneer in Microsoft Office, Sharepoint, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services integration with Dynamics GP user interface (and what is extremely cool - on user profile level, meaning that each Great Plains user has its own metrics and indicators on Dynamics GP panel). SAP BO in its turn is a bit newer, and its graphical design is sometimes considered as more intuitive and ready for Functional procedure versus customization route. Here, in both small business ERP cases you have similar reporting tools, such as Crystal Reports, SSRS (as both ERPs are available on Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2005 and 2000 platforms). Let's move on to customization tools review:
1. SAP Business One SDK programming, integration and modification. SAP requires SAP Business One Partner to qualify for custom SDk programming job. As SB1 itself is typically marketed to all spectrum of businesses, starting from small operations, you should check with your SAP Business One VAR if they are certified in SBO SDK. SB1 SDK is very comfortable for Microsoft Visual Studio C# or VB developers, however SAP is applying additional requirements to ensure high quality of SAP B1 add-on development and implementation
2. Dynamics GP Dexterity customizations and programming. Microsoft Business Solutions also recommends you to select Dynamics GP ISV or Great Plains Technology oriented partner for Great Plains add-ons development and modifications. If historically your Dynamics GP, GPS Dynamics or eEnterprise, or even Great Plains Accounting for DOS and Windows were implemented by local Great Plains Reseller, please check first with them and then, if you do not hear technology sound answer, consider coming USA and Canada Nationwide for GP VAR search
3. GP and SB1 custom reporting. Both ERP systems have robust reporting. Great Plains has FRx financial, GP RW, Crystal Reports, eConnect web publishing methods, SSRS. SAP Business One in turn has Crystal Reports, SB1 queries, SB1 SDK web publishing, SSEA (as both corporate ERP applications are hosted in MS SQL Server)
4. Ad-hoc SQL queries as GP and SBO integration option. Here you have to think about possible danger of messing up business logic by populating incorrect records on SQL table level. Great Plains at this time doesn't have catching tool, while SAP Business One has Early Watch service (where if you are confident in direct SQL data population, you can simply stop Early Watch to enable direct data feeding)
