AYRSHIRE, SCOTLAND, October 06, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Maybole & District branch of Save the Children held their annual golf tournament recently at Brunston Castle Golf Club in Ayrshire.

The event has been running for over 10 years and has always been a great fundraiser for Save the Children. This year was no exception, and a grand total of GBP2,500 was raised by the event through entry fees, sponsorship by local firms, a raffle and donations.

A special auction item was a golf cap autographed by players at the Open in July - Fredrik Andersson Hed, Stuart Appleby, Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, and Justin Rose. The cap was donated by Stuart McConnell, the Ayrshire Weekly News group journalist, and successfully bid for and won by Brunston Castle Golf Club.

The Save the Children golf tournament comprises players in teams of three playing a Texas Scramble.

Duncan Watson, David McCulloch and Colin Thomson took the Quaich for the winning team, and the Charity Scott Trophy for the best placed higher handicapped team went to Elliott, Ann and Robert Glen-Esk.

Save the Children branch chair Rebecca Cadie said: "We had a great day with glorious sunshine for the 40 players teeing off.

"Our annual golf tournament is a most enjoyable event, which once again this year raised a worthwhile amount for Save the Children.

"I would like to thank everybody who took part, including our by now regular players as well as the new teams and sponsors who joined us for the first time this year, and particularly John Scott MSP for his continued and much valued support for our cause."

John Scott MSP for Ayr concluded: "Once again I applaud the effort of the Save The Children Maybole Committee who have been running this hugely successful competition at Brunston Castle Golf Course for many years now. During that time they have raised many thousands of pounds for this very worthwhile cause, and I recommend the competition and the day out to the Elite Ayrshire Business Circle members as a way of supporting this notable charity."
