The banners on the awning announce the Scalamandre Summer City Sale and buyers are loading up on all manner of fabrics from silk damasks and brocatelles to linens and blends and fine cotton prints. There are large bolts, piles of shorts ends, and many large showroom panels of 4 or more yards each.
In addition to all these fine fabrics, shoppers are finding showroom furniture and fixtures such as chairs, display cabinets, and lighting, as well as rugs and complete drapery sets.
Scalamandre was US agent for the French company Elitis for several years and this sale offers a large selection of Elitis wall papers as well as some Elitis furniture.
There is also a large selection of original silk screens once used in Scalamandre's Long Island City mill and some cool showroom props and display pieces.
The Manhattan sale will continue into the month of August. Store hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am to 6pm, or by appointment.
Scalamandre In The City Sale is an extension of the now famous Scalamandre Artifact Sales that LLDSS organized at Scalamandre's Long Island City mill in 2005, and the Internets auctions presented on AntiquesYes.com in 2006.
