SCHIZOPHRENIC SERMONS: New Book Uncovers the Conning of Conservative Christianity
SCHIZOPHRENIC SERMONS analyzes sermons from five of the most popular preachers of Christian Fundamentalism, all preached in pivotal pulpits, including Bob Jones University. It provides startling evidence that Fundamentalist leaders do not teach, and may not even know, the contents of the Bible.

/24-7PressRelease/ - RALEIGH, NC, May 15, 2008 - Jupiter Rising Books announces the release of Schizophrenic Sermons. Once again, the advocate for victims of abusive churches throws open a secret door to the nation's most conservative branch of Christianity. Jeri Massi again shines light on a dark and unexpected secret in Christian Fundamentalism: It is a religion that does not preach the text of Scripture from its best known pulpits.

Indeed, to judge from the seven sermons, culled from five leading Fundamentalist preachers, a reader might conclude that the leaders of Christian Fundamentalism do not even understand the text of the Bible. In analyzing the sermons of Fundamentalism's most influential leaders, Massi applies the most basic and apparent rules of glossing a text: historical context, word meanings, and cross references within the text. From time to time she calls upon Strong's Concordance for help as well as insights from the Puritan commentary of Matthew Henry.

By the end, she shows some startling characteristics of the sermons of these popular Christian Fundamentalist preachers, pastors, evangelists, and writers: They substitute their own ideas for Bible text. They use sermons to flatter themselves and tell their autobiographies. They even get entire passages completely wrong. And in at least two instances, they blaspheme God. From the horrific to the humorous, Massi shows that Christian Fundamentalism, as a religion, propagates itself and not the Bible as its chief aim. And she points out the danger: the whims of the leaders are presented as having Biblical authority.

This book is easy to understand, engaging, and startling. Schizophrenic Sermons is a call for accountability in the pulpit, and a warning to church goers to be ever vigilant in protecting their pulpits from men unfit to preach. Anybody who wants to understand the culture of Fundamentalism will benefit from this book. Christian conservatives and those calling for reform in Fundamentalism will also benefit from this analysis and its conclusions.

This book is available on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.
