EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND, February 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Scotland leads the way in the UK as the destination of choice for people looking to relocate from around the world. According to a recent survey, of the 1600 respondents polled from America, Africa, the European Union and Asia, 58 percent selected Scotland as their top choice location to live and work. Scotland's popularity has increased on the previous year's survey rising by nine percent from 49 percent.

The survey is carried out annually by TalentScotland, which showcases Scotland as an attractive place to live and work. Scotland's share of the vote topped that of England, Ireland and Wales put together.

Hazel Sinclair, Head of TalentScotland, said:

"It's great to see that Scotland is still the number one choice for global jobseekers looking to live and work in the UK.

"TalentScotland has already helped hundreds of people relocate to Scotland. With high value and exciting jobs in key sectors, including electronics, energy, life sciences and financial services we have fantastic opportunities for those looking to develop their career.

"Scotland is also blessed with many of the quality of life factors that jobseekers find important. With affordable housing, a world class education system and some of the world's most glorious outdoors, Scotland has plenty to offer as well as a great career."

The findings also revealed that job satisfaction (89 percent), salary (84 percent) and work/life balance (83 percent) are the most important factors for those considering a new place to work and live. This was reflected by respondents' opinions that Scotland has great job vacancies, is a place that would improve their careers and has opportunities in the relevant sectors. Many talked about the importance of Scotland's rich culture, history, traditions and friendly people, as well as it's easily accessible outdoor activities in making their choice.

TalentScotland is now embarking on a tour of international recruitment events in an effort to showcase Scotland's opportunities to those jobseekers interested in a move abroad. Events include the Games Developers Conference in San Francisco in March, the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston and Bio, a leading life sciences conference, in Chicago in May.

In order to capitalise on this level of enthusiasm for Scotland, TalentScotland has developed a strong digital presence across the Web with http://www.talentscotland.com, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn providing many more ways for global jobseekers to find their ideal job in Scotland.
