Serving 3,700 FREE, Healthy Suppers Each Day to San Antonio's Hungry Children

Be a Champion, Inc.", continues to grow to meet the needs of San Antonio's thousands of hungry children and we can feed many more. The hunger is out there.

SAN ANTONIO, TX, April 07, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- BAC's Champion Fuel Program started serving 400 children free suppers during the 2016 school year. This year, BAC is serving 3,700 hungry children FREE, healthy, suppers EACH DAY in San Antonio. It is a big job, but it is critical to the future of our kids.

"In addition to being hungry, a large number of San Antonio's children are not getting sufficient nutrition," said Be a Champion's Founder, Jaron Barganier. "Over time, our kids become malnourished, and that has a negative impact on their ability to learn. A malnourished child, is an under-educated child," said Barganier.

The nonprofit's founder explains that more than 80 percent of San Antonio's children qualify for free or reduced price breakfasts and lunches. Then, these same kids return to homes where parents are often still at work. Hungry, the children make themselves food such as freeze-dried soup. Their typical supper is highly processed with little nutritional value. That is to say, if they eat at all. Many don't.

Federally subsidized, Champion Fuel suppers are delivered directly to children in schools and community centers between 2:30 pm and 7pm. The food is fresh, attractive, unitized and tightly sealed. Each contains items from a rotating menu such as fresh carrots, ham sliders, and locally sourced fruit. The suppers are very popular with kids.

"Yes, we've grown, but we could get bigger still," added Franco Cruz, BAC Regional Director. "We could be serving in nearly any school district, church or youth organization in San Antonio. The hunger is out there. All parents need to do is call the school and make a request for us. Then, the organization needs to call us. We are here to serve at-risk kids. That is the very mission of Be A Champion," he concluded.

Students perform better academically when served well-balanced, nutritious meals. The following groups qualify for suppers if they have a valid health inspection and serve youth up to 18 years of age: Schools * Churches * Sports Programs * Community Centers * Child Care Centers * After-school programs * Weekend Youth Activities * Cheer, Band, Dance Camps * Youth Groups, and more.
