The temporomandibular joint is the tissue that keeps the jawbone affixed to a person's head. It can be felt by applying pressure with a finger in front of the ear while opening and closing the mouth. This joint is crucial to normal chewing and talking. Sometimes a patient is affected by pain, injury or inflammation to this joint, which is called a TMJ disorder.
