After receiving her dental degree she chose to pursue an advanced program in Prosthodontics so that she could serve patients with a wide array of services to meet their individual needs. More on TMJ
The temporomandibular joint is the tissue that keeps the jawbone affixed to a person's head. It can be felt by applying pressure with a finger in front of the ear while opening and closing the mouth. This joint is crucial to normal chewing and talking. Sometimes a patient is affected by pain, injury or inflammation to this joint, which is called a TMJ disorder.
Many patients that come into Dr. McPherson's office have issues related to TMJ (also called TMD) but don't realize it. They may experience weird symptoms, like jaw popping, clicking sounds or a temporary problem closing or opening their mouths. Over time they get used to the symptoms and ignore them.
Not many dentists offer solutions for TMJ, but Dr. McPherson understands that this is a condition that can often be easily resolved in a dental office.
"Patients don't have to deal with pain associated with TMJ. My office offers treatments and education on how to improve the condition over time with at-home self-care practices," the Severna Park TMJ dentist explains.
In addition to jawbone therapy, Dr. McPherson also offers an array of modern dental services including cosmetic contouring, dental implants, veneers, six month smiles and sleep apnea devices. She also offers dental emergency services for patients in need of immediate attention.
