LOS ANGELES, CA, July 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- "Standing while eating may be the cause of your cellulite," says Ayurvedic Expert and Shankara Spokesperson Judith Bourgeois. Digestion gets interrupted when we stand up while eating. Everything you eat after that point will not get assimilated properly and gets stored in the body as "ama" (digestive impurities).
According to Ayurveda and other holistic health approaches that see the entire body as interconnected, cellulite indicates an imbalance in the body: cellulite is more than the accumulation of fat, and results when saturated fat combines with digestive impurities. "The key is to eliminate the digestive impurities," says Bourgeois. Ayurveda offers simple tools to do so: staying seated throughout the meal, eating mindfully, not overeating or drinking cold water during meals will help.

Eating the largest meal of the day around noon can assist with digestion. Pitta, the fire element in the body responsible for digestion, is at its strongest between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Eating at that time will help the body assimilate what is consumed properly. We should avoid eating during the second Pitta cycle, 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., and allow the digestive fire to burn toxins in the body.

Some invasive treatments are not as effective as people may hope. "Though liposuction can shape the body, it won't remove cellulite, and it may make the cellulite appear worse," reports the Mayo Clinic. "Exercising to excess doesn't get rid of cellulite because when we burn calories we use the fat from far below the skin, and not closer to the surface where cellulite resides," says Bourgeois. "That's why weight loss alone does not completely remove cellulite."

Shankara Skincare has created a cellulite-reducing three-step system that reduces the appearance of cellulite and can be used at home. This regimen stimulates sluggish circulation of the blood and the lymph, supports the detoxification of cells and the body's system of elimination, and it has a tightening effect on the skin. The product line includes: Cellulite Support Mask, Cellulite Support Activator and Cellulite Support Oil.
We also need to remember that toxins are introduced into the body through things like processed food, medication, chemicals in personal care products, air pollution and stress and that when the toxins start getting trapped in different places in our bodies, problems such as cellulite, acne and accelerated aging appear.
Bourgeois' tips to help women tackle cellulite with Ayurveda include:
- Re-ignite your digestive fire (agni): have a pinch of ginger sprinkled with salt and lemon juice before meals to prevent toxins from accumulating.
- Sip hot water throughout the day to flush toxins from your system.
- Support a healthy lymphatic system by brushing your skin or bouncing on an exercise ball or trampoline.
- Reduce stress: exercise, meditation and yoga, for example.

Shankara products are sold in MGM Las Vegas, Qua Spa in Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, Palmetto Santa Monica, Holtz Spa in Toronto and Ottawa, ON, Canada, Pranaa Ayurveda Spa & Yoga in Plano Texas- Winner of D Magazine's "Best of Big D 2008."
