Sharon Florence Kissane, PhD Named a Lifetime Achiever by Marquis Who's Who

    SOUTH BARRINGTON, IL, August 08, 2017 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to name Sharon Florence Kissane a Lifetime Achiever. An accomplished listee, Dr. Kissane celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. A writer and educator for over 34 years, Dr. Kissane is now the president of Kissane Communications Limited in Barrington, Illinois, having served her community at the editing and writing firm since 1979. She started her career as a high school teacher in Chicago and quickly grew into her roles as biographer, fiction writer, and a contributor to education literature. Dr. Kissane is a Writers Guild of America signatory, and was certified as a learning disabilities specialist practicing in numerous school districts including the Montessori School in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Born in Chicago to Bruno William and Agnes Evelyn Mrotek, Dr. Kissane taught at the nearby Notre Dame High School while attending De Paul University to earn a BA in English and acting in 1962. She briefly joined Commerce Clearing House in Chicago as a technology writer and editor after earning a Master's degree from Northwestern University. Her education was supported by a Dale Carnegie Scholarship. Dr. Kissane taught at the University of Illinois for three years before marrying James Q. Kissane in 1966. The couple has two daughters, Laura Janine Ehrke and Elaine Marie Kissane Zachrel.

Dr. Kissane next served as manager of Amalgamated Insurance Underwriters in Chicago from 1966 to 1968, before joining the Daily Herald in Des Plaines, Illinois as a writer. In 1970, she became associate director of the Montague College Psycho-Educational Clinic in Chicago, after earning a PhD in Education with a specialization in Learning Disabilities from Loyola University. Two years later, Dr. Kissane lent her expertise to Stevenson Elementary School in Des Plaines as director of the Library Learning Center. In 1973, she was named director of Park Ridge Reading Center, and in 1979, Dr. Kissane established Kissane Communications. The company was recognized with the Ronald Reagan Gold Medal by the Small Business Advisory Council. A mere two years after starting the business, she was further honored as a successful female entrepreneur with a Distinguished Business Leader Award. Two years after that, Kissane Communications garnered an Illinois Business of the Year Award.

Dr. Kissane has served her community as a board member of the Barrington Children's Choir as well as the South Barrington Foundation. She was also the founder of the Barrington Area Arts Council's Writer's Group, President of the Barrington chapter of Daughters of the British Empire, and a parent representative on the curriculum committee for Barrington Area High School. Additionally, she founded the Park Ridge Historical Foundation and was an election judge for the South Barrington Precinct; Cook County presented her with an Honorary Judge of Elections certificate in recognition of her work. Dr. Kissane also served as a board member of the LA FEP Student Exchange Program, and was an original task force member of Barrington School District 220's Gifted Education Program and co-wrote the policy manual.

Dr. Kissane published a number of books on her insights as an educator, including the first edition of "What is Child Abuse" in 1993 and the first "Gang Awareness" in 1995, which were both republished in 2001. She was author of "Autobiography of Paul (Mousie) Garner, Broadway Stooge" and "Career Success for People with Physical Disabilities" and co-author of the "Polish Biographical Dictionary." Dr. Kissane also served as a writer for the Ralph Metcalfe Foundation and was a contributing writer to the "Encyclopedia of Advertising." She wrote and produced "Project Forward," a documentary film on behavior modification sponsored by the federal government.

Dr. Kissane is a member of the Authors Guild, and founder of the National Association of Women Business Owners, for which she served on its board of directors from 1982 to 1983. She is affiliated with Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Gamma Pi.

Dr. Kissane has been the recipient of numerous awards over the years. In 2013, she received the Barrington Area Library Fiction Award and in 1999, she was named an "Honored Local Author" by the Illinois Library Association. She also received a Poetry.com award as well as a second Gold Medal from World Poetry Movement, and an art award from La Citta Del Sole in Italy. In 2000, she received a literacy grant to support others, and over the years she has been a lecturer in her areas of expertise, including graphology.

For achievements in numerous fields and dedication to education, Dr. Kissane was selected for inclusion in numerous volumes of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World, and Who's Who of American Women. She was also named 2004 Woman of the Year by the American Biographical Association and 2008 Public Relations Person of the Year by Strathmore Who's Who. In 1965, she was named an Honorary Citizen of Korea.
She enjoys painting, post card art, music, and sports in her free time.
