Shining (Sun) Light On The Rise In The Solar Industry

High School Students Harness Sunlight for a More Efficient Tomorrow

HAMDEM, CT, May 29, 2015 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Taking on global issues is an everyday feat for students at the Engineering Science University Magnet School (ESUMS). Fifteen juniors and seniors have joined together in their e-Commerce class to create a business that will revolutionize the way solar energy is captured.

PanElectric Company, founded by students with an interest in both engineering and the sciences, is on a mission to balance solar potential with innovative solutions. Traditional solar panels absorb roughly 10% of daily sunlight and are dependent on solar farms which are built on vast amounts of land. PanElectric has envisioned a way to embed microdot solar technology into the windows of buildings allowing the solar cells to absorb 300% more energy from natural and refracted light turning each building into a "solar tower".

Thanks to the company's public outreach team, PanElectric is working with solar professionals and industry experts at Semprius and SEIA, Solar Energy Industries Association. As a result of collaborative efforts, members of PanElectric have been granted access to information- and science-based resources including a research analyst from SEIA. Students continue to beat the pavement seeking out future industry partners. Melissa Manzione, ESUMS Technology instructor, stated that "since green energy will represent 44% of commercial and institutional construction by 2016, PanElectric's innovation is both a timely and viable solution."

PanElectric is very excited to pitch their business initiative at the Connecticut Student Innovation EXPO on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the XL Center in Hartford, CT. The EXPO runs from 9a - 2p, has free admission and is open to the public.
