Cambridge Who's Who
- Memphis, TN, May 7, 2008, Shirley A. Price, Professional School Counselor for Jackson Elementary School of Memphis City Schools, has been recognized by
Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in school counseling.
Ms. Price boasts 24 years of experience in education with 14 years of experience in school counseling. She took on her current position in 1994, bringing to Jackson Elementary her expertise in teaching, working with children and meeting with their parents, and counseling students individually and in groups. Her greatest accomplishment so far involves a third-grade student who was relegated to resource because of how he looked; she worked with him to keep him from being labeled because of his appearance and eventually got him out of resource. The boy turned out to be intelligent—eight years later, she switched on her TV and saw him compete in the show Knowledge Bowl. Ms. Price attributes her success to her dedication to her job and her ability to understand and work with children of varying backgrounds, from Hispanic and European American to Black American and Asian.
Prior to becoming school counselor at Jackson Elementary, Ms. Price also served Memphis City Schools as a third grade teacher for eight years. In addition to her Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling, she holds a Master's Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Trevecca Nazarene College and a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Memphis. She looks forward to continuing her career in counseling, staying current with new strategies that are being developed in working with children and discerning which of these are the most effective in helping children succeed.
