Breaking into what is now a very successful career in medicine, he began his career in 1977 as a staff member in internal medicine at Osaka City University Medical School, and later became a staff member and lecturer for the department of laboratory medicine at the Osaka City University Medical Center. He served as vice director and director for several different hospitals from 1991 to 2003 before spending a year as a physician at Toho-Kasiba Hospital Medical Corporation.

From 2004 to 2011, Dr. Kuwajima served as the chairman of the board of directors for the Toho Hospital Group, and in 2017 he became director with Nishitani's Oasis of Geriatric Health Services Facilities. He also remains active as a member of the Japan Medical Association and the N.Y. Academy of Science, and has contributed many articles to medical journals throughout the course of his career. He has been recognized in numerous editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Asia, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.

Dr. Kuwajima first studied at National Kyoto University, receiving a Bachelor's degree in 1965. He then completed an MD in 1970 and a PhD in 1975 at Osaka City University, followed by postgraduate work at National Osaka University from 1975 to 1976.
