/24-7PressRelease/ - PORTSMOUTH, RI, June 06, 2008 - Web Wilson will present a short, sweet, antique doorknob auction that opens on Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m. EDT. The auction is posted at AntiquesYes.com and bidding will stay open for a week, until Saturday, June 14.
This is Web Wilson's 57th antiques hardware auction, which over the years have offered some the finest collector hardware ever found, including several pieces that realized world record prices.
This short, sweet auction maintains this tradition of excellence and includes several rare items in exceptionally fine condition. Lot 25 is a very rare footed doggie knob from a still unidentified Philadelphia hardware company of the 1860s that offered many designs with a hoop and spear border motif. This doggie lot also includes the very hard to find matching rosette, also with the hoop and spear motif, as well as the swinging cover keyhole escutcheon.
One other Philadelphia footed doggie knob was sold through a Web Wilson auction in 2001 and that lot realized nearly $5000. The example is this auction is in extremely fine condition, with every casting detail sharp and clear.
Another fine lot in this short, sweet auction is a pair of near mint Geisha Girl passage knobs by Russell and Erwin. Condition of these hardware collector icons is near mint, with every casting detail crisp and clear.
Serious doorknob collectors will also be bidding on several unusual glass knobs including cut and pressed rarities and a tapered shank passage knob with a bright red/orange carnival glass color.
The Short, Sweet Antique Hardware Auction will open Saturday, June 7 at 10 a.m. EDT and the lots will close one week later, June 14, beginning at the same time. Every item is guaranteed as described, there are no hidden reserves, and all bidders remain anonymous.
