PHOENIX, AZ, May 03, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The majority of the thousands of women who choose to have breast augmentation surgery every year are pleased with the results. However, some women do experience difficult complications, and some even encounter inexperienced surgeons who deliver less than top-notch results.

Some symptoms of postoperative issues with your breast augmentation surgery include:

• Fever
• An overall flu-like feeling
• Hardening of the breasts
• Pain and redness
• Excessive scarring

Fever and an overall feeling of illness could indicate infection, as could pain and redness of the incisions. If you experience these symptoms, you should call your doctor immediately.

If your breasts begin to feel hard and take on a rounded appearance, this could indicate capsular contracture. When implants are placed in the breasts, the body naturally forms a lining of tissue to surround the implant. This is called the "capsule." If this tissue tightens and contracts around the implant, it creates a hardened, unnatural look. This, too, should be brought to your doctor's attention as soon as possible.

Breast Correction Surgery

If you're not pleased with the results of your breast augmentation, you should contact the surgeon who performed the surgery and see what can be done to correct the issues. Most plastic surgeons want nothing more than to see their patients happy, and often will waive part of the fees for revision surgery to be sure you end up with the results you want.

If you can't get the help you need from your original surgeon, or if the original surgeon simply lacks the skills to provide satisfactory results, you might have to consult with another, more experienced surgeon. Unfortunately, this will likely be a costly proposition.

The best way to avoid costly, health-threatening complications with breast augmentation surgery is to work with an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon. A board certified surgeon has pursued additional training specifically focused on cosmetic surgery, and is required to remain up-to-date with the newest research and techniques.

As well as finding a board certified surgeon, be sure to make the most of your consultation time before your surgery to explain exactly what you expect. Your surgeon will be able to help you get a realistic idea of what a breast augmentation can do for you, and help you decide how to proceed so that your final results will be everything you hoped for.
