PEACHTREE CITY, GA, July 23, 2009
/24-7PressRelease/ -- SIGVARIS has launched the UlceRx Therapy Solution Kit, a medically-effective compression stocking kit for the treatment of venous leg ulcers The SIGVARIS UlceRx Therapy Solution Kit consists of two underliner stockings and two 30-40 mmHg graduated medical compression stockings, allowing the patient to wear one set while washing the other.
"UlceRx Therapy Solution Kit provides an alternative, superior option to using bandages for wound care. Its' proven medical benefits along with improved comfort and reduced pain for the patient make UlceRx the treatment choice for medical professionals providing wound care solutions," said Jonas Thelin, SIGVARIS North America Marketing Director.
In a recent medical study, [The treatment of venous leg ulcers with a specifically designed compression stocking kit; F. Mariani, et.al.; Phlebologie, September 2008], 96.2% of the participating patients achieved complete closure of their wound with the use of the UlceRx stocking kit (70% complete wound closure rate with traditional bandages) and healed ulcers up to 4cm in diameter twice as fast as compared to bandage wrapping.
Additionally, patients using the UlceRx therapy solution reported that pain at night and in the morning was absent with the use of SIGVARIS UlceRx Kit, whereas patients using bandages experienced markedly stronger pain when bandages were applied and removed, and while walking. This is notable because most patients suffering from venous ulcers experience significant, ongoing pain from the wound.
One of the pain-reducing factors of the UlceRx Therapy Solution Kit is the underliner stocking that is made from 100% cotton to soothe the wearer's skin. The outerlayer fabric also provides a "glide" which enables the outer stocking to be put on more easily, reducing the pain and discomfort of applying compression to a wound.
The UlceRx Therapy Solution Kit is best suited for the following types of patients:
• A patient who cannot return on a regular basis to the medical clinic for bandage change
• A patient who is experiencing pain and/or swelling at night or in the morning due to their venous leg ulcer
• A patient who has no assistance at home for bandage application or removal
• Home health care patients, as bandages used in wound care treatment are normally changed twice per week, and home health care is usually only insurance-covered for one weekly visit
The UlceRx Therapy Solution Kit may be eligible for Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement under HCPC codes A6531 or A6532. Medical professionals can prescribe the UlceRx underliner separately and the underliner can be used with different compression levels or styles of graduated medical stockings.
