Dr. Park is a local office chief of the long-span bridge division with the Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation (KISTEC) in the Republic of Korea. He formerly served as the organization's tunnel inspection team leader for several years and was the chief of research for several national research and development projects. He was also a senior researcher of the structure group with the Korea Institute of Construction Technology prior to joining the KISTEC. A highly trained civil engineer and inspector, Dr. Park holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science in engineering from the Kyungpook National University in Daegu, Republic of Korea, and a Doctor of Philosophy in engineering from Kyoto University in Japan.
A former lecturer at Kyungbook National University, Chungbuk National University and Jeonnam University and former visiting researcher at the University of Southern California in the United States, Dr. Park has since been lecturing in the training program for the engineers in the Construction Ministry since 2012. He also recently took on the role of an advisory committee member of safety inspection with the local and national government in 2016.
Responsible for conducting research in the interpretation and guidelines for the use of field measurement data for tunneling in the Ministry of Land and Transport in 2015, Dr. Park has contributed more than 30 scientific papers and peer-reviewed articles to various publications on the topic of civil engineering, as well as approximately 50 conference papers. He is the author of five books on tunnels and bridges. The results of his writing contributions have earned Dr. Park a Silver Medal Prize by the Korean Society of Civil Engineers in 2005, a Writing Book Award by the Korean Geotechnical Society in 2013, a Best Paper Award in the poster section by the Korean Institute of Bridge and Structural Engineers in 2015, a Book Award by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2015, and an Outstanding Paper Award by the Korea Institute for Structural Maintenance and Inspection in 2017.
A former committee member for the Korean Geotechnical Society, the KTA and the Korean Society of Engineering Geology for several years, Dr. Park holds three patents in his field relating to tunnel structures and two additional patents relating to bridge structures. He has also received an Award by The Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2013 and an Award by the Korea Geotechnical Society in 2014. Married to wife Eri Ochiai, Dr. Park has three children.
