Silicon Solar has donated six SunMaxx-25 evacuated tube heat pipe solar collectors to a United Way YouthBuild Project in Brentwood, NY.
The Historic YouthBuild Home Building Project is being put on by the United Way of Long Island. Silicon Solar Inc is a key sponsor of the historic program, and the donation of SunMaxx solar hot water heaters will be used to provide free, efficient and clean heating for the new home.
This project is the first YouthBuild Home Building Project on Long Island, and is located in Brentwood, NY. The goal is to build the first home in the Town of Islip has approved as a high-technology, high-performance ENERGY STAR home. The YouthBuild home will be held up as an example of the power of energy-efficiency, solar energy and green living for the entire northeast community. The home will also be a model of an affordable housing project for working, moderate-income Long Island families.
The site for the home was provided by the Town of Islip's CDA (Community Development Agency). and the home will be available to a first-time homebuyer throught CDA's Affordable Housing Program.
A number of great sponsors made donations to help build the success of the project, and should be commended for their dedication to the mission of the United Way and power of energy efficiency.
The YouthBuild project offers local students the opportunity to work alongside skilled, professional tradesmen in all aspects of the home's construction. YouthBuild is a national youth and community deveopment initiative established by the United Way that employs young adults from 18-24 and provide them with the opportunity and tools to transform their lives and their role in society. YouthBuild enables its students to complete their high school education, receive onsite construction training through their accredited pre-apprenticeship program, receive career and social counseling and, upon graduation, are offered a career opportunity in a related field, or entrance into a continuing education program.
