/24-7PressRelease/ -- Silicon Solar Inc, an upstate New York solar energy company, has donated ten SunMaxx-30 evacuated tube solar collectors to the YMCA of Binghamton, NY. The solar collectors are to be used to supplement the domestic hot water heating costs of the YMCA's facilities, allowing additional budget money to be used for service and facility upgrades.
SunMaxx-30's are Silicon Solar's largest evacuated tube solar collectors, and are primarly designed for larger commercial and municipal domestic hot water systems, as well solar radiant and space heating systems.
The SunMaxx solar hot water system on the roof of the Broome County YMCA is large enough to provide 140 million BTUs of heat energy every year - enough to heat 218,000 gallons of water every year - based on the average available solar resources in Binghamton, NY. In other words, the solar hot water heating system will offset enough natural gas to provide more than 29,000 showers each year (83 a day).
Executive Director Rick Peterson says, "it is a great way not only to save money, but also help the environment by reducing our carbon footprint."
The SunMaxx solar hot water system will have a dramatic impact on the reducing the natural gas usage of the YMCA facility, and is only a part of more than $1,000,000 that the YMCA has invested in energy efficiency upgrades, including efficient lighting and heating/cooling system upgrades.
