/24-7PressRelease/ - FORT WORTH, TX, September 23, 2005 - The Starke police department joined CrimeWeb to provide citizens, news media and organizations with the ability to register on-line to receive free notifications on major crimes, missing children/adults, registered sex offenders, community information, school information, and homeland security information both email and text messaging.
Starke is the first city in Bradford County to use the CrimeWeb system.
Chief Gordon Smith learned of the program while attending the 53rd annual Florida Police Chief's Association Conference in June. In addition to its already successful child locator program, Starke police now can send e-mail based alerts on; severe weather announcements, business fraud and illegal scams, recent burglaries, locally registered sex offenders, and crime prevention tips.
CrimeWeb is an on-line service utilized by public safety agencies nationwide to distribute information to subscribers via email. Conceptualized by a law enforcement official, Crime Web's unique web-based clearinghouse is designed to improve the efficient exchange of information from police departments to news media and citizens. It is designed to empower safety across America. The citizens of Starke must register at http://www.crimeweb.net in order to receive alerts from their police department. Citizens may also search alerts sent by other Florida cities such as; Port St. Lucie and Lakeland.
Subscribers will receive information, based on CrimeWeb's zip code system, which may affect them in their community. For example, a subscriber could register to receive an email alert letting them know about a robbery in their neighborhood. Or, the subscriber could request to receive a text alert on their cell phone or pager informing them that their local police department is offering a child safety fair. Citizens can access a new sex offender search tool that allows site visitors to locate registered sex offenders in their community by accessing the national sex offender registry search.
