The annual clan gathering will take place July 25th and 26th, during which the Royal Mile comes alive with parades and events. This weekend in jam packed with events and sights for every Scot, or even just those who are Scottish at heart.
The Gathering will kick off on July 25th and each day will be jam packed with events like the Highland Games Heavy Events in which you can see highlanders from hundreds of clans taking part in events like the hammer throw, stone throw or caber toss. There will be highland dancers, as this is also there yearly championship competition, as well as pipe bands and of course, LOTS of tartan. While in Edinburgh for The Gathering, be sure to check out Mary King's Close. Hidden the Royal Mile is one of Edinburgh's most scary secret places. Mary King's Close is where thousands of people lived, worked and died during the late 16th and early 17th Century due to the Plague. Entire families were moved into Mary King's Close in an effort to stop the spread of Plague. It is said that many of it's former inhabitants still haven't left.
