Snoring and sleep apnea (a medical problem where the airway collapses during sleep) rob people and their bed partners of the rest they need to face their daily challenges.
45% of the population snores and 20 million people in the United States alone have sleep apnea. Of these, only 10% have been diagnosed and treated; and of those treated, many cannot tolerate their prescribed medical device known as CPAP (continuous positive air pressure supplied through a nasal mask) - which supports the airway during sleep.
Snoring Isn't Sexy was formed to alert the public to the medical dangers and social hazards of snoring and sleep apnea, and to introduce an alternative treatment that can be provided by specially trained dentists.
Small, comfortable, dental mouthpieces that hold the lower jaw in a forward position have been proven to support the airway to prevent collapse, and have been approved as a primary treatment in mild to moderate sleep apnea - and, as an alternative to, or in conjunction with CPAP when needed.
Dr. Robert L. Talley, DDS, of Norman, Oklahoma is now affiliated with Snoring Isn't Sexy. Dr. Talley is a native Oklahoman and an alumnus of the University of Oklahoma. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from O.U., he attended the University of Missouri, Kansas City, School of Dentistry, and graduated in 1971.
Dr. Talley is Director of Craniofacial Pain Associates of Oklahoma, a private practice that provides conservative care through inter-disciplinary management of patients who suffer from temporomandibular disorders; head, neck and facial pain; and sleep disorders. A Diplomate of the American Board of Craniofacial Pain, American Board of Orofacial Pain and the American Academy of Pain Management, Dr. Talley holds memberships in numerous professional organizations. He is a Founding Member, Fellow, Past-President and current President of the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, and serves on this organization's Board of Officers and Directors.
Starting in the mid 1970s, Dr. Talley concentrated much of his continuing education in the area of dysfunction of the stomatognathic system, including further study of the biomechanics and physiology of the upper quadrant. This progression has led him to an orthopedic philosophy based in multiple disciplines of orthopedic medicine, osteopathic cranial therapies and structural management, physical therapy and molecular science.
Professionally, Dr. Talley has limited his practice to diagnosis and treatment of craniofacial pain, temporomandibular disorders, headaches and sleep-related disorders since 1983.
