/24-7PressRelease/ - NOVI, MI, July 11, 2008 - Television converter boxes sold by Detroit-based electronics retailer Solid Signal have been identified as the best in picture quality by a leading consumer organization.

Converter boxes are an essential piece of equipment for television's digital conversion in February 2009. After the digital conversion, millions of analog televisions sets in the United States will stop working unless they are equipped with converter boxes, which translate digital broadcasting to analog television sets.

As part of a multibillion-dollar effort to prepare the public for the digital switch, Congress created the TV Converter Box Coupon Program to offset some of the cost of these digital converter boxes.

However, like anything, not all converter boxes are created equal. Four converter box brands sold by Solid Signal were rated best in picture quality by the largest consumer-product testing center in the world.

"Solid Signal's mission is to offer the best in products and advice to all our consumers," said President Jerry Chapman. "As an Internet retailer of electronic equipment, it is important that our customers know they are getting the best quality electronics on the market today. Our products' rating by this consumer organization just confirms what we already knew - that we sell only the best in consumer electronics."

The federal government plans to distribute more than 38 million coupons for converter boxes to consumers in preparation of the digital conversion on Feb. 17, 2009. For more information on the coupon program, log onto http://www.dtv2009.gov. Solid Signal is listed as an official retailer of the converter box program.

"Solid Signal wants to educate consumers about the digital switch and to make sure they only buy what they need," said Chapman. "Over the next several months, we will be taking the opportunity to call our customers to make sure they have all the necessary equipment for the digital conversion in 2009."
